Industrial areas sometimes reveal unusual structures. I present here a structure built to allow the passing of pedestrians over a busy rail line in Van Nuys California. I was scouting locations for a publicity photo. I chose to present this image as a black and white to allow the structure itself to stand against the sky. We would have used a Wratten 29 filter in my film days. The slight blue tint mimics the iron toned images when I first worked in a commercial darkroom.
Richard Lund entered the film industry in 1980. He did specialized photography making background pictures for motion pictures and television. He shot 8x10 plates for his first movie in Riverside California. The film was Buddy, Buddy directed by Billy Wilder and starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. He printed the pictures with a crew on Kodak Translite film. Thus began his career. Personally he photographed large format images for 240 feature films and a lot of television. Additionally he supervised production of about two thousand background pictures. He originated the Chromatrans full color backgrounds, inventing the seaming process for this new style polyester based film. (The original Translites were black and white with color...
