Red saturates the sky in this study of the Department of Water and Power building in Downtown Los Angeles or DTLA. I shot this as a study for the Jay Leno. We did not use this one, but it inspired us to shoot it again for the later Tonight Show version. I call the style of architecture "skeletal."
Richard Lund entered the film industry in 1980. He did specialized photography making background pictures for motion pictures and television. He shot 8x10 plates for his first movie in Riverside California. The film was Buddy, Buddy directed by Billy Wilder and starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. He printed the pictures with a crew on Kodak Translite film. Thus began his career. Personally he photographed large format images for 240 feature films and a lot of television. Additionally he supervised production of about two thousand background pictures. He originated the Chromatrans full color backgrounds, inventing the seaming process for this new style polyester based film. (The original Translites were black and white with color...
